Yes. gimp-2-4 is the stable branch. But we are not likely going to do
another release from that branch.

The 2.5.x development release are done from trunk, which is going to be
released as version 2.6.0 very soon now. So the answer to your question
is "both".

I am somewhat confused about this question. Isn't that how pretty much
all GNOME applications are doing it? What is causing the confusion here?
