[Gimp-docs] Gimp crashes

I think I am posting this in the right place
Ihave searched the forms and faqs but I am getting now where is finding a
solution to my problem.

Gimp crashes and freezes bad.
I have the latest version. I read that too many brushes can cause this so I
only use the brushes that came with it and when I need a new brush I install
it then remove it when I am done. I have not added plug ins or new script foo
things. I am using only the basics.

I defag, check for errors, clean registory, clean cache, remove temp files,
etc., all the stuff I read to do.

Image size, layer amount, what tool or filter etc., makes no difference. I
get about 5-15 minutes of work time then freeze. I save like heck.
So for about ever 15 minutes of work time it takes me about 20 minutes of
freeze.
