[Gimp-user] DICOM, file-dicom.exe failed to allocate 3758161922 bytes

GIMP 2.6.1
Windows XP Home SP3

I tried to open a DICOM file, and received a memory allocation error: 
gmem.c:156: failed to allocate 3758161922 bytes

file-dicom.exe produced this.

The DICOM file size is 1.7MB.

My machine's memory is 1.5GB.  I have two page files, each 1.5GB

Does this look like a code problem, or could the dcm file actually blow 
up to 3.8GB?  Shall I try expanding my page files?
