[Gimp-user] How do I get a smooth diagonal line

Even with paintbrush? (pencil tool does no 'smoothing', whereas most
other tools do by default)

If that is the case, it's possible your image is in INDEXED mode.
Check the Image->Mode menu and convert it to RGB before trying again,
if that is the case
