First post on this list... I am the maintener of http://www.gimp-fr.org/
(php server is slow). Hope I could help you.

For me GUG is the leader for the Gimp user galleries, it works well
like many years and there is more than 1800 pictures and so many artists.  
Because I don't like duplication of works I think that the gallery section 
of gimp.org should better link to the GUG galleries.
