[Gimp-web] Outdated links

Folks,

This is to inform you all of outdated and/or misleading links on your
page http://developer.gimp.org/standards.html. If this is the wrong
place to post such, please point me to the correct means. I've tried
mailing the listed webmaster email address before, but to no avail.

A summary of my remark is near the end of this mail for those who find
my full explanations lengthy.

"TIFF 6.0" currently links to
http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/tiff/TIFF6.pdf. It's
dangerous and misleading to link directly to this PDF, because a number
of specification supplements have been added to the old TIFF 6.0
specification, one of which overrides part of the old specification, and
there is no indication of this in that PDF. Instead, it would be far
better to link to the Adobe TIFF page that contains links to the
specification as well as both supplements. This Adobe page is
http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/tiff/index.html.

Secondly, "Unofficial TIFF Home Page" currently links to the old Niles
Ritter page http://home.earthlink.net/~ritter/tiff/. This was indeed
regarded the unofficial TIFF home page many years ago. However, it
hasn't been seriously updated since 1995. Thus, it contains misleading
outdated information on the whereabouts of the TIFF mailing list,
LibTiff, etc. There is a new unofficial TIFF home page that is properly
maintained, http://www.awaresystems.be/imaging/tiff.html. This contains
lots more info then the old Niles Ritter pages, it's up to date, it
properly links to the Adobe specification page and the true new home of
LibTiff and all. The community supports this new home page, as can be
proven by the link to it on the previously mentioned Adobe TIFF page, as
well as on the LibTiff page http://www.remotesensing.org/libtiff/, and
many other places all over the web...

I think it would be in the interest of your visitors to update these
links. For your convenience, I'll summarize my humble recommendation
below.

TIFF 6.0
http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/tiff/index.html
Unofficial TIFF Home Page
http://www.awaresystems.be/imaging/tiff.html

Thank you.

Best regards,

Joris Van Damme
