It would also be nice if the user could decide. I have seen that
browsing through the screenshots can be a painful experience on a
machine that does not have 2D/3D accelerated graphics (well, at least
I think that's the explanation for the speed differences that I
observed). The fade-in menus are slow but bearable, but the box for
the screenshots is killing the machine.
What about adding a checkbox near the top of the page saying "Yes,
I want fancy animations for the screenshots?". The Javascript code
could then check the state of this option before deciding if it
should do its magic or not. Hmmm... I don't know how well this
can work while rewriting the links, but hopefully that problem can
be solved.
