Well I know very little about programming but I know what I wanted to
do so I was willing to use this as a project to learn more about HTML
and databases etc because I did not see anything that fitted the bill.
If you are customising Drupal then that's great but that's beyond my
skill. I am fantastic at pin pointing where a error is happening and
narrowing down problems.
I have a really good user sense, how they think, what they expect,
where to add or remove things for more options or less confusion.

I don't know how because I did not get the e-mail. Is that the normal
behaviour of Drupal? The account is active and goes to inactive if no
response from the e-mail?
If so then I hope you change the design to make the new account
inactive until they respond to the mail. Spammers could script
registration and then spam between the registration and the marking of
inactive.
I did not get the original messages and have used the "Request new
password" facility (twice), still no message after 15 minutes, are you
sure you fixed the e-mail config?
