I'd strongly recommend learning svn. It's not difficult and it will make your 
life a lot easier if you intend to contribute frequently to the project, 
especially when you start committing changes directly. The official online 
book[1] contains all you need to know. You don't need to bother with the 
chapters on administration and you can probably skip the stuff on branches, at 
least to begin with. There are graphical front-ends if you fear the command 
line, but even that's pretty intuitive. Typing 'svn help' is all you really 
need, and on my Gnome/Linux system, hitting tab auto-completes the commands for me.
