[Gimp-web] Utilise alpha blending in new site?

Well, I do not have recent statistics and I hope that the situation has
improved in the last year due to the popularity of Firefox and the
transition from IE6 to IE7, but last time I checked IE5/6 was the most
used browser for accessing http://www.gimp.org/.  This is a bit annoying,
but it looks like the majority of our visitors are (or were) using
Windows and IE.

There are already several PNG images with alpha featured in the site, but
not in any critical part (for example, the images of Wilber included at
the bottom of http://www.gimp.org/about/linking.html).

Although I would like to have more nice images, I am not sure that it is
wise to use them in any important part, such as the menus or headers.
The tricks using IE filters to enable alpha support could be used, but
they have a tendency to increase the loading and rendering time of the
pages.
