As far as I can tell from experience, sizes below that would require a
two-column layout. With three columns, either the sidebars or the
content would suffer when going below 1000px.
I have nothing against a good two-column layout, but design is not my
best side so this would require contributions ;-) Most of the existing
two-column layouts for Drupal have been designed for use as a personal
blog and scale badly to a multi-user, multi-content-type site like
registry (i.e., they often lack top navigation and so on).
So, I'm saying: Any of you guys come up with a cool,
next.gimp.org-style two-column layout for Drupal, the registry will
pick it up pronto!

It does, I have placed the corresponding search block in the right sidebar now.

You are right about the catgories and I hope that with time, free
tagging can improve on that. Many plugins are multiple things.

Ah, that problem is fixed now :) It was in Drupals file uploading code
(as opposed to the Attachment handling code, which I had looked in
before).
